Best Dissertation Award 2012-South Asia Special Interest Group
Dear Colleagues,
The CIES South Asia SIG announces the call for applications for the “Best Dissertation Award 2012-South Asia Special Interest Group”. The award acknowledges the academic work of young scholars focusing on educational issues in the South Asian region and South Asian diaspora. The selected candidate will be given an opportunity to give a presentation at the South Asia SIG Business Meeting at the CIES Annual Conference for 2012. The Award will also include a stipend of $500. The Awards Committee does not specify any research topic or methodology that will be given priority. It will keep in mind the issues of regional fit and diversity. No special privileges will be given to any particular institution, gender, and race/ethnicity.
Specific criteria for selection of the candidate are:
1) Eligible dissertations must be filed from July, 2008 to June, 2011 and the student must have achieved doctoral candidacy status in either an Ed.D. or Ph.D. program.
2) Interested candidates should submit a 10 page summary of their dissertation which should give an overview of the research, the specific research problem that the dissertation is attempting to address, a brief literature background, methodology, description of results and a section on relevance or use of the results in policy or practice. The candidate should ensure that the definition of the problem is clear, rationale for the investigation is persuasive, research approach is adequate/appropriate for the problem and rationale and the conclusion(s) or interpretation(s) are grounded in the data. This summary should be a maximum of 10 double spaced pages in 12 point font.
3) Dissertations must be submitted in English.
4) Dissertations must focus on educational issues relevant to the region of South Asia or the South Asian diaspora.
